Locksmith in Niagara Falls, OntarioSticking lock?Worn key? Sorted.
A key that needs jiggling, a bolt that only throws when you lift the handle, a cylinder that spins loose in the door. These are small annoyances in Niagara Falls homes that become lockouts if ignored. We tune, rebuild or swap the part at fault and leave the door working like it did when it was new.

2021 census · what it means at the door
61%Older homes
About 61% of homes in Niagara Falls were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.
Established homes often have non-standard bores and backsets from an earlier generation of hardware. A locksmith working in such an area carries adapter plates and cylinders in the older sizes, so an upgrade fits the existing door instead of forcing a new one.
66%Mostly houses
Single-detached houses make up about 66% of homes in Niagara Falls (2021 Census).
Garage entry doors on detached houses are often the household's real front door, used more than the formal entry. They deserve the same quality of lock, and keying them alike with the house means one key does the whole daily routine.
Which fix fits?
It is minus fifteen, the wind is coming across the driveway, and the key will only go halfway into the deadbolt. The usual fix
UsuallyHome Lockout Service
WhyIf you rent, a lockout visit works much the same way, with a little extra care around who holds which keys.
Overnight the deadbolt froze, and this morning the key would only turn partway. The usual fix
UsuallyBroken Key Extraction
WhyWhat you have when the locksmith leaves matters as much as what was removed.
There is a hole where the cylinder used to be.The usual fix
UsuallyBreak-In Damage Lock Repair
WhyA failed break-in is still a repair.
Someone tried the door last winter. The usual fix
UsuallyDeadbolt Installation
WhyMost of the value in a deadbolt is on the frame side, which is why a good installation spends as much time on the jamb as on the door.
Questions people ask us
Is a double-cylinder deadbolt a good idea after a lockout?
A deadbolt keyed on both sides is sometimes suggested for doors with glass beside them, but on a main escape door it means finding a key to get out. A door people use to leave the home should open from the inside without a key or special knowledge, especially in an emergency. A single-cylinder deadbolt with a thumb-turn, paired with a reinforced strike and a proper glass film if needed, keeps both security and a clear way out.
Part of the key is sticking out. Can I just pull it with pliers?
If a good length shows and the plug is at its normal rest position, a firm straight pull sometimes works. The risk is pushing instead of pulling, or twisting, which drives the piece deeper and can bend a pin. If it does not come on the first gentle try, stop there and leave it for extractor tools, which grip the cuts without loading the cylinder.
How do I check that the repair is holding over the following months?
Once a month for the first season, throw the deadbolt with the door closed and feel for drag or a stop short of full extension, and press on the strike and hinge screws with a screwdriver to confirm they are snug. Repeat at each change of season, since wood moves with humidity. A door that starts needing a shoulder, or a bolt that catches on the strike lip, wants a small adjustment early rather than a repeat of the original problem.
Can the new deadbolt use the same key as my other doors?
Usually, yes. If the new lock shares a keyway with your existing cylinders, the locksmith repins it on the bench so your current key operates it, and nothing changes on anyone's ring. If the keyways differ, the other doors can be brought onto the new key instead. Say which key you want to keep before the hardware is chosen, because keyway is part of picking the lock.
Can a smart lock go on a patio door, a side gate or a multipoint door?
Some can, and the locksmith will say which. Sliding patio doors use a hook or a pin rather than a deadbolt, so they take purpose-made electronic latches rather than a standard smart deadbolt. Multipoint doors, common on newer fibreglass and steel entries, lock at several points with one lever; a growing number of smart handles are built for them, and compatibility with your specific gearbox is checked first. Gates take weather-rated keypad locks designed for outdoor posts.
