From the shop

Keys cut right, locks set true.

Condo and apartment work has its own etiquette. We coordinate with the property manager, respect the building's existing key system rather than cutting across it, and match finishes so a new suite lock does not stand out in a hallway of identical doors. Common areas, bike rooms and parcel lockers each have hardware chosen for heavy shared use, and we service those too.

Locksmith services

Services we offer

Security should feel like a settled question, not a nagging one. These services exist to get you there: doors that lock without a wrestle, keys that only the right people hold, and hardware chosen for how you actually use the building rather than a catalogue picture.

Change or rekey

Change or Rekey Locks

A house is a working machine of doors, and each one has a job. This group of services covers the locks that do those jobs: keeping the entry secure, letting the family in without fuss, giving a teenager a key that only opens one door.

  1. Two detached brass lock cylinders and four house keys on a wooden counter. — Lock Rekeying, Niagara Falls
Lock RekeyingOne key for the front door, another for the back, a third for the side door into the garage, and a fourth for the shed. You stand on the step every evening flipping through them in the dark, trying each one until…
  2. Person holding a silver-colored lock beside an open wooden door with exposed circular holes and a latch at its edge. — Deadbolt Installation, Niagara Falls
Deadbolt InstallationSomeone tried the door last winter. The frame took it, but the strike plate is bent, one screw hole is stripped, and the bolt sits in the pocket at a slight angle.
  3. Detached satin-nickel lever hardware, tubular latch and strike plate on a wooden workbench. — Lock Replacement & Upgrade, Niagara Falls
Lock Replacement & UpgradeSomeone tried the back door while you were away. The jamb is splintered around the strike, the bolt is bent, and the knob turns with a grinding feel.
  4. Person holding a long door handle and rectangular lock case beside an open wooden door with exposed hardware recesses. — Vintage Mortise Lock Service, Niagara Falls
Vintage Mortise Lock ServiceThe key turns freely in the round cylinder on the door, all the way around and back, without the bolt shifting at all. The cylinder itself wobbles slightly when you press it, as if it has come loose inside the door.
  5. Person holding a black door-handle assembly and a latch beside a glazed door with exposed lock openings. — Smart Lock Installation, Niagara Falls
Smart Lock InstallationArthritis has made the small house key hard to grip and turn, especially with gloves on in January. Pressing a few buttons, or tapping a fob against the lock, would make coming home in winter far easier.
  6. Pale blue garden gate with a black lever latch between light stone pillars. — Gate & Building Entry Locks, Niagara Falls
Gate & Building Entry LocksA neighbour mentions, in passing, that the key from three tenants ago still lets him into the building's front door. Nobody changed it after he moved out, and now the property manager wants to know exactly how many keys…
  7. Detached threaded cam lock and mounting washer on a workbench in front of closed mail compartments. — Mailbox Lock Replacement, Niagara Falls
Mailbox Lock ReplacementThe mail slot on the shop's exterior wall has a small compartment lock that a former employee still has a key to, months after they left. Nobody on staff can say with any confidence who else might hold a copy.

Commercial

Commercial Locks

Warehouses and industrial units have wide doors, rolling shutters, padlocks on yard gates and cylinders that face the weather all year. Commercial work here is about hardware that holds up outdoors and a key plan that works for shift crews.

Lock Replacement & Upgrade

The house is fifteen years old and every exterior door still wears the light hardware the builder fitted: a short bolt, a thin strike held by two small screws, and a knob lock that never suited a street entrance.

Lock Replacement & Upgrade

Which fix fits?

The shop's back door only latches if someone slams it.The usual fix

UsuallyAdjust the closer and realign the strike.

WhyUsually the closer is out of adjustment or the strike has drifted; both are set, not replaced.

The fire exit alarm sounds every time staff use that door. The usual fix

UsuallyService the exit device and rethink the routine.

WhyExit alarms are meant to sound; if staff need that door daily, an arrangement that still lets everyone leave freely is found.

The storefront lock is worn and the key barely catches. The usual fix

UsuallyReplace the cylinder with a commercial-grade one.

WhyStorefront cylinders take a beating; a heavier grade is built for that traffic.

Between the front gate, the side gate and the one behind the shed, there are three different padlocks, three different keys, and a growing pile of duplicates…The usual fix

UsuallyGate & Building Entry Locks

WhyA gate or door that will not latch is rarely just a lock problem; more often the hardware is being asked to catch a moving target.

You've just moved in, and the mailbox compartment in the lobby came with a single key the previous owner mailed back separately, or never handed over at all.The usual fix

UsuallyMailbox Lock Replacement

WhyMailbox lock replacement swaps the small lock inside a mailbox door or a single compartment of a building's mail panel for a new one that matches the same opening.

A safe sat in a late parent's basement for years, its combination known to nobody left in the family, and everyone would like to know what is actually inside…The usual fix

UsuallySafe Opening & Combination Change

WhyOnce a safe is open, the visit is only half finished.

How a visit goes

Upgrading to high security rarely means new doors or a big disruption. Many high security cylinders retrofit into the existing deadbolt or lever, so the door preparation stays as it is and only the cylinder and keys change.

Drawing: a house seen from the street. The van pulls up, the garage door is opened for the work, then it closes level and the porch light comes on.
  1. 1 of 3

    Counting the doors and keys

We walk the house with you, note every exterior lock and ask which doors you want on one key. That decides the pin work and the number of keys to cut.

  2. 2 of 3

    Pinning the cylinders

Each cylinder comes out, gets new pins to match a fresh key, and goes back in. Old keys stop working the moment the cylinder is back in place.

  3. 3 of 3

Testing every door with every key

We try each new key in each lock, from outside and inside, hand you the set and explain how many copies exist so you know exactly who can get in.

Niagara Falls information

2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 61%Older homes

About 61% of homes in Niagara Falls were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

Established homes often have non-standard bores and backsets from an earlier generation of hardware. A locksmith working in such an area carries adapter plates and cylinders in the older sizes, so an upgrade fits the existing door instead of forcing a new one.

  • 66%Mostly houses

Single-detached houses make up about 66% of homes in Niagara Falls (2021 Census).

Garage entry doors on detached houses are often the household's real front door, used more than the formal entry. They deserve the same quality of lock, and keying them alike with the house means one key does the whole daily routine.

Questions people ask us

(289) 271-0666

Can all my doors be on one key?

Yes, and most homes ask for exactly that. Every exterior cylinder is pinned to the same combination so one controlled key opens the front, back, side and garage entry. A gate or shed padlock on the same keyway can join it. For businesses, the same keyway can carry a small master system where staff keys open only their areas and a manager key opens everything. The keying plan is agreed before any pinning is done.

Should I upgrade the front door only, or every door?

Start with the doors that matter and the ones that are weakest, which are often not the same. Front doors usually carry the sturdiest hardware already; the side door by the driveway, the door from the garage and the basement walkout often carry the lightest locks and get the least attention. The assessment walks the whole perimeter with you so the upgrade goes where entry is most likely, and the remaining doors can join the same key later.

Can a hardware store or kiosk copy my new key?

No. The blank for a patented keyway is distributed only through the manufacturer's network to locksmiths who hold the system, and the side milling or angled cuts need a machine set up for that line. A kiosk would have neither the blank nor the cut. Extra keys come through your locksmith, cut from code, once an authorised person has approved the order. That routine is a small inconvenience compared with never knowing who has a copy.

What does key control mean in practice?

It means your key can only be copied through the locksmith who manages your system, after checking that the person asking is on your list of authorised names. Blanks for the keyway are not sold to hardware stores or kiosks while the patent lasts. Each key is numbered and recorded, so you know how many exist. For a home that ends the worry about old copies; for a business it turns a lost staff key into a known, manageable event.
