Reach a locksmith serving Mulhern right now

Before a locksmith opens any door in Mulhern, he asks to see that it is yours: a piece of identification, a lease, an ownership paper, or a neighbour who can vouch. Most people are relieved by the question. The rest of the visit follows the same habit of care: explain each step, leave the frame and finish as we found them, and make sure the keys in your hand are the only ones that work.

Locksmith services

Services we offer

A door in Mulhern has more parts than most people think: the cylinder, the latch, the deadbolt, the strike, the closer, the hinges and the frame around them all. The services listed here touch every one of those parts, from a straightforward rekey to a full storefront hardware overhaul.

High security

High Security Locks

This group covers cylinders and deadbolts built to resist picking, bumping and drilling, strikes fastened into the framing, and patented key systems where every copy is authorised and recorded. We assess the whole door first, then recommend the level that fits.

Mulhern information

2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 61%Older homes

About 61% of homes in Niagara Falls were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

Older homes tend to have had many hands on their doors: owners, tenants, tradespeople, family. A locksmith visiting such a house pays attention to who holds keys now, and rekeying or a keyed-alike set often matters more than any new hardware.

  • 66%Mostly houses

Single-detached houses make up about 66% of homes in Niagara Falls (2021 Census).

Detached houses have their own garages, sheds and gates, and each tends to carry a lock chosen on the day it was needed. A locksmith visiting such a home looks at all of them, not just the front door, and brings the whole property up to one standard.

Questions people ask us

(289) 271-0666

Is a double-cylinder deadbolt a good idea after a lockout?

A deadbolt keyed on both sides is sometimes suggested for doors with glass beside them, but on a main escape door it means finding a key to get out. A door people use to leave the home should open from the inside without a key or special knowledge, especially in an emergency. A single-cylinder deadbolt with a thumb-turn, paired with a reinforced strike and a proper glass film if needed, keeps both security and a clear way out.

How do I stop this from happening again?

Three habits cover most of it. Lubricate the cylinder with a dry lock product twice a year and keep oils out of it. Check that the door locks with no pressure on it each spring and fall, snugging hinge and strike screws when it starts to drag. Keep a lock de-icer handy and fit a keyhole cover on exposed doors. And act on the first stiff turn, because a lock that still turns is a smaller job than one that has stopped.

Does rekeying weaken the lock?

No. On a conventional pin-tumbler cylinder, the housing, springs and top pins are untouched and only the bottom pins are exchanged for the same grade of part the lock left the factory with; a homeowner-rekeyable design is reset through its own procedure instead, and a high-security cylinder may also need its sidebar or finger-pin elements reset. If the locksmith notices worn parts, replacing them is offered as a separate step, leaving the lock stronger, not weaker.

What does a higher grade of lock actually give me?

Grades follow ANSI/BHMA standards, with Grade 1 the highest and Grade 3 the lightest, and residential hardware carries a separate label that scores security, durability and finish. The grade reports how the lock performed on the standard's own operational, strength and security tests; a higher grade often comes with a longer bolt, a sturdier housing, pins that resist picking and a strike built to anchor into the framing, but those features are worth confirming on the specific model rather than assumed from the grade alone.

What outside trim options exist for an exit device?

A plain pull suits a door nobody needs to lock from outside. A lever with a key cylinder lets authorized people turn the handle and enter while the inside stays a simple push. A keyed cylinder alone, without a lever, suits occasional entry where a full handle is not needed. All three leave the inside crossbar untouched, since the trim only ever affects the outside.
